My kids are 9 and they get 2.50 pw. You need to decide how much you can afford and what you expect her to pay for with her money. If she has to pay for things like movies and stuff then she would need a bit more than if you pay for that stuff.

lol allowance?? what is that? lol jk….as a kid, me and my brothers never got allowance, we were just expected to our chores for free. and we were ok with that. the only time i was ever paid money for chores was when i was 10 and was trying to save up money to go to mall of america with my best friend. i made between $2-5 dollars per job i did around the house. but i have 2 kids of my own now, ages 4 and 9 months. i am still debating whether or not we will give allowances. probably not, though. but if i did, i would probably only give like $10.00 a month.

Hey! Well, I’m that age and I do chores, but don’t get allowance. My parents decided, while my brothers and I were little, that we should learn that chores won’t always amount to money. So, they buy us clothes (me, in particular bc im a girl and love to go clothing shopping) and necessities for us with gifts for birthdays and holidays, and occasional treats such as candy and ice cream within reason.
Instead of allowance for money, I’ve learned how to get and manage jobs. I babysit for multiple families (I charge 4-7 dollars/hour, depending on # of kids) and tend to the garden of an older couple down the street (that love their plants, but are close to incapable of daily care for them–she pays me $10/hour). I’ve also taken up a job in my family’s business(minimum wage). With these, I make over $100 per month and feel very accomplished.
Also, my family doesn’t believe in payment for good grades. Good grades are their own reward and kids should be taught to strive for excellence at an early age. This teaches values to kids and that money isn’t always the most important thing.
Also, urge kids to take up charity work. I belong to an organization called National Charity League (NCL) for mothers and daughters and it’s one of the things that’s changed my life the most, and for the better. We volunteer at many places and for many organizations, from charity walks for Pediatric AIDS research funds to work at the local food bank. Charity work is rewarding and will stick with you the rest of your life, because most everyone who chooses to get into it loves it.
This way, I get my money, my parents don’t have to do every single chore or pay me extravagant amounts, and other people besides my own family are helped. This, in my mind, should be the alternative to allowance and should be how every teen/pre-teen makes their money.

I get a grand total of 0$ for chores or anything, and I am 12. My 16 year old sister gets zip as well. I have been taught that you should help around the house because you live there, not because your going to get paid. You should teach your kid the same.

I’m a mom of a 10 year old. I pay my daugther $5 per each hour she does chores. She has a list of chores to do before the end of the day. She writes down the time she starts and finishes for each day and I pay her weekly. The most she usually gets (from what I can see) is $60-80 per week.

i am 13 and my dad always gives me the amount of money as my age
so i get 13 dollars, but i give 5 dollars to this indonasian girl i am sponsoring
so six bucks then
i would say five or six bucks for a 12 year old

We don’t have enough left over to give our kids an allowance. They are 14 and soon to be 16. We do provide everything they need and if we have a little extra, we are more than happy to share it with them.
I don’t believe there should be a “set” or “right” amount because every family’s financial situation is different. And allowances aren’t a given right, nor are they a necessity. I think kids definitely should learn the value of hard work to earn their spending money.

Well I get 50 bucks a month for doing chores and stuff, but since my parents are divorced I get 20 from one and 30 from one.
